Within the Netherlands, Sovon utilizes bird-monitoring networks to study the trends and the distributions of bird species. Furthermore, changes in distribution of breeding birds and wintering birds are systematically surveyed with periodic nationwide surveys.
It is possible to consult Sovon distribution maps via www.vogelatlas.nl. These maps are based on the most recent Atlas project (2012 – 2016). We expect to publish detailed maps accompanied with explanations of the trends in 2018. Our unique atlas datasets are already being utilized for spatial modeling at the regional level, with a focus on habitat and hotspots analysis.
Data collected within the national and provincial bird networks are, providing the application is made in accordance with the agreement with the field observer, available on request via the Dutch National Database Flora en Fauna. Individual requests for data should be applied for by the Nature service point.
